Tim Robbins And Susan Sarandon Announce They was broke up
Hollywood power couple and most enduring relationships Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have broken up after 23 years together.
“Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer,” her rep Teal Cannaday tells PEOPLE in a statement. “No further comments will be made.”
Publicist Teal Cannady said in a statement the two actors separated over the northern hemisphere summer.
About Tim Robbins And Susan Sarandon
Sarandon, 63, and Robbins, 51, met while shooting the 1988 film Bull Durham. They have two sons together, Jack Henry, 20, and Miles Guthrie, 17.
Sarandon, 63, was previously married to Chris Sarandon, whom she met in college. The actress also dated director Franco Amurri in the mid ’80s. The two had a daughter, Eva Amurri, in 1985. (Amurri is also an actress; she most recently appeared in Showtime’s Californication).
Sarandon and Robbins, 51, were admired for their long relationship in the face of the pressures of show business, their much-discussed age difference – he’s 12 years younger – and that they never married.
The pair, both Oscar winners, never married.
“I won’t marry because I am afraid of taking him for granted or him taking me for granted,” Sarandon once said.
She told US television network CBS in 2006: “Maybe we would (marry) if we decided you know by the time I’m 80-something I might want a big party.
“That would be a good excuse.”
“I won’t marry because I am too afraid of taking him for granted or him taking me for granted – maybe it will be a good excuse for a party when I am 80,” Sarandon has said in the past.
Both famous liberal activists, they have never been too political at home with their children. “I’ve never tried to force [politics] on them,” the actress tells Psychologies magazine in its January issue, but adds that the election of President Barack Obama “got them excited.”
The family all attended the inauguration in January, though Sarandon insists “our dinner table conversations are rarely political.”
Robbins will be in Australia next month as part of the Sydney Festival.
Sarandon is starring in The Lovely Bones and was in Australia two weeks ago for its Sydney premiere.
She won a best actress Oscar in 1995 for her role in Dead Man Walking, which was directed by Robbins. She starred opposite Sean Penn.
Robbins last appeared in 2008’s City of Ember. He won a best supporting actor Oscar in 2003 for his role in Mystic River.
The couple were outspoken critics of the 2003 Iraq invasion and are known for their social and political activism as well as their applauded bodies of work.
Sarandon has a daughter to director Franco Amurri and was married for 12 years before that to her college sweetheart Chris Sarandon.
On meeting Robbins in 1988, Sarandon told CBS: “I don’t think it was love at first sight.”
“When we started working together, he was really good and he was really funny and he was really smart.
“And you give me smart and funny and I immediately, you know, my ears perk up.”
Tim Robbins And Susan Sarandon Fans Comments
The announcement rocketed into the top 10 most talked about topics on micro blogging site Twitter.
‘‘Nnnnooooooo tim robbins and susan sarandon broke up… the best celeb couple there ever was,’’ one tweet read.
‘‘Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins broke up, which means there’s no hope for any of us or our relationships. Merry Christmas!’’ another depressed fan said.
‘‘Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins were supposed to be together forever!’’ said another.
‘‘Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins have split up. Has the world come to an end?’’ another tweet said.
When I read that Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins separated after 23 years together, my thoughts immediately turned to their two decades of liberal political activism. The Democratic power couple was particularly active during the 2008 Presidential Campaign.
Here’s Susan Sarandon talking about Sarah Palin at Boston University in September 2008, when she says that Palin’s views are “worrying” and would set the woman’s movement back. She also quoted actor Ed Harris, who said Palin “would be a really large footnote in the annals of moose hunting”. Saradon also expresses her thoughts on the media’s coverage of politics.
They must be deeply, deeply ashamed of their split, since it happened a few months ago and they decided to announce it today, on the wasteland that is Christmas Eve. Who is going to know now?
The couple’s rep tells People, “Actress Susan Sarandon and her partner of 23 years, actor Tim Robbins have announced that they separated over the summer. No further comments will be made.”
Well, I’ll be a monkey’s uncle! These liberal mouthpieces and film darlings have been together so long they were one of those couples you took for granted and thought would never break up. Now that their sons, Jack and Miles, are 20 and 17, it seems like there is no reason to stay together for the kids’ sake. We’re actually a little bit sad about this.
We guess this leaves even more time for Sarandon to focus on SPiN, the Manhattan ping-pong lounge she opened this fall. Sounds like it would be a great place to meet her next pretty young thing.
