Myrtle Beach Location and Geography
Myrtle Beach is known as the famous beaches of a resort city in Horry County, South Carolina, United States. It is located between the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on the west and the Atlantic Ocean on the East. Much of the area between the coast and the waterway is a slightly elevated sandbar or dune area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 16.8 square miles (43.5 km²), of which, 16.76 square miles (43.5 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (0.12%) is water. Its seaside destinations offers the Grand Strand which is blessed with wonderful inland waters, and include the Intercostals Waterway, which runs parallel to the coast from Little River to Socastee, where it merges with the Waccamaw River. Along the way, other rivers and tributaries feed into the waterway, and passage to the ocean is gained through Little River or Winyah Bay.
